凌雲閣 跡地 The former site of Ryounkaku

凌雲閣は、1890年竣工の高さ52メートル、12階建ての展望塔で、当時の日本で最も高い建物でした。浅草に建てられたことから「浅草十二階」と呼ばれていました。
当時の日本で最も高い建築物であり、1〜10階はレンガ造、11〜12階は木造で、東京の名所として人気を博しました。11～12階の眺望室には望遠鏡が設置してあり、東京はもちろんのこと、富士山や伊豆、足柄、箱根などを一望できたとされます。
凌雲閣の設備には、当時としては最先端の技術が集結しました。東芝の前身の一つとなる白熱舎（のちの東京電気）を創業した藤岡市助が、日本初となる電動式エレベーターを設計し、電話設備は明工舎(沖電気の前身)創業者・沖牙太郎が担当しました。各階の内部には3個の電灯を点じて、176個の窓から光を放ち、11階には1個当たり5000燭光のアーク灯2個を設置して、夜の景観にも配慮されていました。
花やしきの横の跡地には、凌雲閣の絵が描かれており、当時使用されていたレンガを見ることができます。 Ryounkaku was completed in 1890 and is a 52-meter-tall, 12-story observation tower. It was the tallest building in Japan at the time. It was called "Asakusa Twelve Stories" because it was built in Asakusa.

Ryounkaku's facilities brought together cutting-edge technology for the time. Ichisuke Fujioka, who founded Hakunetsusha (later Tokyo Electric), one of the predecessors of Toshiba, designed Japan's first electric elevator, and Kibataro Oki, founder of Meikosha (the predecessor of Oki Electric), was in charge of the telephone facilities. Three electric lights were lit inside each floor, shining light from 176 windows, and two arc lamps with 5,000 candlepower each were installed on the 11th floor, giving consideration to the nighttime scenery.
At the site next to Hanayashiki, there is a painting of Ryounkaku, and you can see the bricks that were used at the time.
