The Mito Tobukan was founded in 1874 and is known as a martial arts dojo with the aim of popularizing and passing on martial arts. At this dojo, you can still learn traditional Japanese culture, such as kendo, naginata-do, and iaido. (Watch a demonstration of Hokushin Ittoryu and try kendo.) This popular kaiseki restaurant has been in business in Mito for over 100 years, and is especially famous for its eel dishes, which are prepared by the owner himself. This Japanese garden is located in Mito, Ibaraki, and is known as one of the three most famous gardens in Japan. It is especially famous as a plum blossom viewing spot, with about 3,000 plum trees planted in the garden, and during the plum blossom season from February to March, it is crowded with many tourists.
