  • Visit and worship at the World Heritage Site "Shrines and Temples of Nikko"
The shrines and temples of Nikko are Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Nikkozan Rinnoji Temple, and Nikko Futarasan Shrine, and are a World Heritage Site consisting of two shrines and one temple. This group of buildings was registered as a cultural heritage site in 1999, and a total of 103 buildings, including 9 national treasures and 94 important cultural properties, as well as the ruins (cultural landscapes) surrounding these buildings are registered.
  • Kanmangafuchi and the Jizo statues
About 70 Jizo statues are lined up along the Otani River in this beautiful valley with clear water, creating a mystical atmosphere. Kanmangafuchi has long been said to be a sacred place where Acala appears, and was opened in 1654 by Kokai Sojo, a disciple of Jigen Daishi. The number of Jizo statues changes on the way there and back, which is why it came to be called "Bake Jizo."
  • Kanaya Hotel History Museum
Kanaya Zenichiro, a gagaku musician at Toshogu Shrine, renovated his own home at the suggestion of Dr. Hepburn and opened the Kanaya Cottage Inn, the predecessor to the Kanaya Hotel, in 1873. The hotel was built as a samurai residence from the Edo period, about 400 years ago, and was nicknamed the "Samurai Residence" by foreign guests. In 2015, it was opened to the public as the Kanaya Hotel History Museum, and includes a restaurant and bakery.
