  • 60 years of mandarin orange cultivation! Kobayashi Farm - Mandarin orange picking
The southern slope of the Sayama Hills is warm, well-drained, and bathed in glorious sunlight, making it ideal for growing mandarin oranges.
Please enjoy the delicious mandarin oranges grown in Tokyo, packed with the bounty of the beautiful greenery of the Sayama Hills.
  • Nishijuku Puppet Theater: Higashimurayama's local entertainment
Special seats are available for viewing the Nishijuku Puppet Theater, a local performing art that is active in Higashimurayama City. All of the Bunraku puppets, stage equipment, props, and scripts were created by the troupe's members, and you will be captivated by the delicate expressions. The program will include "Taiheiki," which is set in Higashimurayama City, and "Kaomise," a condensed performance of five plays. It is an easy-to-understand and enjoyable program for anyone, making it a suitable introduction to the appreciation of classical Japanese culture.
  • Shofukuji Temple Jizo Festival (once a year! The interior of the Jizo Hall is open to the public)
This Rinzai sect temple in Higashimurayama City is home to the Shofukuji Jizo Hall, the only national treasure building in Tokyo. The wooden Jizo Hall is in a beautiful Zen style, and inside is a statue of Jizo Bodhisattva and many smaller Jizo statues, giving it the nickname "The Hall of a Thousand Jizos." This tour will be held once a year on the day the interior of the Jizo Hall is open to the public. Don't miss the offering of the "Urayasu Dance," an intangible folk cultural asset of the city, the paid distribution of small Jizo statues to ward off evil, and the sale of freshly picked local vegetables, specialty products, and regional cuisine!
